Vintage hat mold http://ift.tt/1cqxTmL
So 2 weeks ago I went to my mother’s country house, which has been in her family for generations. My grandparents owned a hat factory back in the day, which closed in the late 1980’s.
But, my mother kept lots fo things from the old factory, including these hat molds (this one is for making berets), trunks full of patterns and ancient machines.
For those who don’t know what is the process, here goes: you place the berret (always made with a wool fabric), and then you apply hot steam, which causes the wool to start felting. Let it dry to maintain the shape, and finally, take the mold apart and release the beret.
Because of this, the wood was all stained, so I decided to paint it white….but it was very “new”, and I want it to maintain the old look (theses molds are over 70 years old), so I used stamps and apply the decoupage paper with Mod Podge. http://ift.tt/1cqxTD1
